February 2025
The African Sports and Creative Institute (ASCI) has officially released Strength in Numbers – Part 2, its landmark report analysing the rapid evolution and vast potential of Africa’s sports industry. The publication serves as a strategic blueprint for leveraging sports as a vehicle for socio-economic transformation across the continent.
Building on the foundations of the first edition, Strength in Numbers Part 2 captures the sector’s progress through data-driven insights on investment, infrastructure, athlete development, digital transformation, and international partnerships. With sports contributing an estimated $14 billion to Africa’s GDP in 2024, the report projects continued growth as the continent prepares to host global events including the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

“We believe sports can be a pillar of African economic growth, job creation, and cultural identity,” said Will Mbiakop, Executive Chairman of ASCI. “This report is a call to action for all stakeholders to step forward with intentional purpose.”
The report emphasizes the importance of sustainable finance models, the rise of sports technology, and youth-centric digital engagement. It also identifies key barriers, including infrastructure gaps and access to capital, while showcasing innovative responses from across the continent.
